In a seminal report [1] issued by McKinsey & Co in 2011, Big Data is justified as “the next frontier for innovation, competition and productivity”. Among others, the report argues that “big data is not only a powerful engine of competition and growth for individual companies, but that, in aggregate, it also can move the needle on productivity, innovation, and competitiveness for entire sectors and economies in both the developed and developing worlds.”
