Innovation and entrepreneurs

The future EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, Horizon 2020 , is put in place to push stronger for innovation to enable growth and new jobs in Europe. In this context the workshop wants to shed light on two crucial ingredients of the innovation process: Entrepreneurship and partnerships for innovation.

This group aims then to cover issues related to innovation, such as:

And issues related to entrepreneurship, such as:

  • What are the necessary conditions for the entrepreneurs to be successful
  • How to carve out potential measures to refine the instruments of Horizon 2020?
  • Address topics like entrepreneur camps, mentoring, accelerators, incubators, talent and access to finance with a specific focus on web and ICT entrepreneurs and fast growing SMEs.
  • What do you think about a European Public-Private Partnership to support EU web enterpreneurs to start and grow their companies? Which services should be added to the Partnership?

UPDATE: Comment the draft working document on a EU strategy for web entrepreneurs

Join the discussion, provide your comments, and feel free to launch new themes that you feel should be discussed at the Assembly.
If you feel lost in the many threads of the discussion? You can see the summary of the discussion so far here.

Prove we love Greece and honour her Ancient Rites as much as we honour her Human Rights!

Let us prove this Digital Agenda Assembly priniciple and premise is a true beacon in the night and relocate EU Parliament, in spirit by taking Digital Agenda Assembly Projects and all Members to operate for 6 months in Greece.

Stop feeding talent to the sharks

There is in "innovation" circles a focus on getting young people to start companies.

Fine - there is however one serious problem with this approach. Unexperienced people do not understand the complexities of markets and thus do not see real problems and oppourtunities, but just move in the "lemming tendency".

There is a huge difference in the start-ups of 1970 where e.g. computing and ICT where an immature klondykeand today where extremely powerful players are controlling markets.

article: Building the Next Facebook a Tough Task in Europe. The NYT

Building the Next Facebook a Tough Task in Europe
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/18/technology/18iht-net18.html

Extract:
In the United States, promising Internet start-ups can expect venture capitalists to come calling at an early stage. Fat checks often follow quickly. In Europe, many entrepreneurs have to wait longer; to get their businesses up and running, they sometimes have to rely on unorthodox sources of funding, including France’s generous welfare benefits.

Collaboration/Cooperation between S/T entrepreneurs/startups

consen's picture

Europe has to have the own companies for facilitating the collaboration and cooperation between S/T entrepreneurs and startups.
The EEIG has to improve 1) moderate the unanimity requirements and 2) include the IT technologies for facilitating the executive management.
The adopted 2002/2001 SCE/SE has to reduce the minimum social capital 30/120KE needed for facilitating their establishment.

Young People and Fostering Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the EU

ggeorgiev's picture
Submitted by ggeorgiev on Wed, 2012-05-16 10:49

I believe we need to encourage more active participation by younger people in the entrepreneurship and innovation field in Europe.

Innovation breeds in a mix of high-performing internal workers and young newbies, so that some participants are familiar with the core business while others have an open mind and fresh ideas. Young people need the freedom to create and freedom to fail and learn. They need to be given the opportunity to reach their productivity potential.

1 Application for All Entrepreneurs for Finance!

JacintaArcadia's picture

I have noted in latest LinkedIn Digital Agenda discussions on repairing the damage done to recent Entrepreneurial Endeavours and the Entrepreneurs personally!

I have called for a Centralised Export Desk to manage the exceptional Talents Europe has to offer, not just from the Digital Realms but all Individual Inventors & Business People! I have recommended European Union Parliament and Ministers and participants here for Digital Agenda, recognise the USA EXIM Bank efforts and Business Model to Export all Businesses at the SME Level - it is a Model to replicate here in Europe!

The global Open Data movement has recently emerged. Over the past four years around fifty countries have managed to publish nearly two hundred catalogs of public data at national, regional and local levels. In this new market that has emerged around the data reuse, many private companies are already involved (infomediary businesses and from other sectors: advertisers, media, or software developers among others).

Requiring Europe as a region

AxelS's picture
Submitted by AxelS on Fri, 2012-09-14 00:16

While we all work towards a true European "UNION", Europe is still seen as a conglomerate of countries.

How about a policy that requires software companies to have "European Union" as a region like the "United States". "European Union" should then include or point to the 27 EU Member Countries.

Today we several hundred countries to chose from in any software but Europe is never one of them. This is quite a disadvantage for marketers, sales organization, advertising selection....

Any thoughts?

Today, Da Vinci would fail to get Bank Finance for Patents!

JacintaArcadia's picture
Submitted by JacintaArcadia on Fri, 2012-06-22 12:33

The time we are in now, is clearly in my personal opinion, one of the richest eras in time, of creativity!

The internet has revealed the expanse & fertility of new ideas, sparkling flexibility to inclusive humanity and ever important respect of Nature!

But, if Da Vinci was alive today, he would have to fly to the USA, if he could get a VISA & he would need 1 million dollars to invest in a Citizenship, but he would be permitted to register a Patent for half the price as an Organisation or Company!
