A root cause analysis of content would point to two basic problems in media.

a) The market is seriously distortet by the "free for data" business model. Content is not paid for but used as bait for consumers while the media providers are hit by the "free" model paid through abuse of personal data.

b) DRM have both proven unable to protect content while often implementing dis-empwoering model that comes at the expense of personal data security and lock-in to unflexible technical structure.

How is creative content to be financed in the digital age?

How is creative content (the book, the film, the game, the TV show etc) financed currently, and how realistically can it be financed in the future? These are key questions for Europe's creative and cultural industries, and so far we have come up with more questions than answers as regards the challenge of digitalisation.

We need to be more rigorous, more evidence-based and more commercially aware in our approach to public debate, just as investors have to be, otherwise they lose their shirts!

Internet services need more available non-discriminatory API

Compared to traditional businesses, Internet businesses are more "closed". They provide none, proprietary or APIs that do not serve both potentially involved parties with the same benefit.

Thats often due to the network effect - if you have enough users locked into your service, its getting hard to impossible for small innovative competitors to enter the market.

Kinda misses the whole point doesn't it? Content = Wikipedia et al, have illustrated, is nothing to do with "producing" and then .. "consuming". That why the daa never grows legs.

To have a wider comunication on EU more inclusive is important to work consistentely to all (independent of languages) have the same chances to pariticipate and understand and be understood.
Without that only a small percentage have chance to express in full.
The improvements on automatic translation available must be a priority on EU instituitions and media plataforms.

I love music from all across Europe. However there is a problem with many online digital stores (notably in France, but others too) which do not allow registered users outside of France to purchase legal downloads. This clearly has issues on a number of levels.

Security is rapidly eroding everywhere and we need to rethink security in a fully networked environment where perimeter security fails, e.g. even recent US Millitary statement to US congress.

Instead we need to change to a Security by Design paradigm where each transaction or context is logically isolated from all others.

E.g. Cloud security is non-existing and is theoretically impossible due to the nature of the technology – the benefits comes on the expense of security - so transactions has to be secured OUTSIDE cloud.

Open digital textbooks in Poland

Poland introduced a pilot programme 'Digital School' aimed at raising ICT skills and for computerization of Polish schools. What is interesting is that the programme encompasses introduction of digital textbooks that will be freely available for pupils (under Creative Commons Attribution or compatible).
This was not very well received by the traditional publishers who feel threatened by the open and free e- textbooks.

Pan-European services like Netflix should exist by now!

Make audiovisual collective licensing easy and fast. Help and promote companies that want to open throughout the European Union. We are pressured in downloading illegal content because there is no way to purchase next day episodes of TV shows. Expanding iTunes TV shows, Netflix, VUDU and other video services is long and tedious process that costs a lot of money to the companies. Current framework if hurting both consumers and content producers.

It's going to be impossible for the new living room ecosystem to be regulated by current broadcast regulatory bodies at National and EU level for a number of reasons.

1. All new connected TV's are built with web browsers as of 2012 and Opera is expected to sell over 30 million licenses for their browser rendering engine for TV to most TV manufacturers. How will regulatory officials tell us what we can browse for on our TVs?

2. The entire TV App ecosystem on the big screen being pushed by Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, Philips, Sharp, LG et al. is hardly controllable.
