What do you think about an initiative where the public / consumers vote for their most liked businesses based on public / social media based customer engagement. The da12social team then features the top 10 companies from each country with the most votes and most new jobs created ?

Great idea, Peter! For sure it would be an interesting experience for the companies. Some would see how far they already are and some would would realize that there have to be done correcting measurements. ;-)

Very good point Tina - if we get the most agile people moving the follower will follow - because that is what follower always do. Investing time in a follower to be a leader is a waste of time. Our primary job is to find out who is who.

I like the idea, Peter yet fear that those Top 10 lists sometimes do not reflect quality. @BerriePelser is right that one would have to be careful not to leave out not so well know companies that do engage in social media "comme il faut" :-) Maybe not only the number of jobs created should be evaluated but also their impact on Europe's future development in the terms of the Digital Agenda.

I guess what Peter meant is creation of additional jobs based on the social media initiatives. What Europe needs are more jobs across the union so the less lucky countries thrive again.

It's a good idea, but it would be needed to implement with kind of a system to avoid fanboys, duplicate voting, etc
And a system to propose new companies with good practises that are not on the lists. Maybe using some algorithms...

Great Idea Peter,
But we must be aware that companies with a high level of customer engagement through Social Media do not necessarily create new jobs. The focus of the public could well be customer related. We in da12social should also focus (and maybe primarily) on those companies that are able to expand their workforce because of social media.

I too think this is a great idea!
How would that technically be put into practice? Once it is running we would see what kind of other conditions needs to be considered. But it is much more important to start the competition race and get attention from those not get involved in social media than struggling to long on any kind of issues.

We created a competitive dashboard for Internet World Exhibition that publicly showed where pople are in the race - it is essentially the "Wall Of Fame" platform we could easily repeat that for those companies. Also I chatted with the CEO of SocialBakers who might be willing to help here.

I think its a GREAT idea & inspiring - for the aspiring companies!!
Not sure on the "new jobs part" and/or how to qualify the contestants though!?
And how to get people involved - prizes or ?

I really like the idea Peter, Companies competing to be recognised by the general public would drive their efforts further and in addition benefit from the publicity of being able to not only market themselves as the "public choice" but also get promoted by the groups very sizeable online reach. An attractive prospect for business looking to get involved. The mechanics can be worked out to keep a level playing field, and as for the rest of the companies not listed in the top 10, there are various other ways to include them. Perhaps a site list off ALL participating organisations which could be promoted, so simply by taking part there is recognition but only the top 10 get particular special mention & promotion?

Good idea in theory, agree with @BerriePelser and @OlafKracht. Just afraid the smaller "budget companies" may not be represented, though they may be executing a great program. We just need to monitor carefully, setting selection criteria beyond "liked", has to be transparent. Competition is great... as long as it is above the table.

Probably change "the most liked" to "the most engaged"

Great to read all the responses!

Good and creative idea! The critea must be evident -if it's job creation, engagment etc. The team could select 8 ideas to vote for and ask the public to come up with 2 more, which also could be voted on.

Would be nice to get some ideas from the public sector, but guess it's difficult to find sufficient number of good ideas...

Great idea - I trust that there are many creative people in the public sector and given we have 27 countries - we have a huge pot of resources :)

I think it should also take into consideration, that a tpo social business might actually save existing jobs that otherwise would be lost in the future.
Should be the same worth than creating new ones - if thats a criteria in a vote.
