In case you have a missed it is a 3 months old interview on BBC:
If employers need so many skilled employees, why don't they (join forces and) train people, providing employment seekers with the required skills? Is it because it is too late, ie people are so badly spoiled by the education system that they cannot be re-trained? Is it because employers don't clearly express what they need? Is it because they don't need so many people after all?
By the way, thanks Andrea for porting the short BBC interview.
OECD has posted a presentation in which it indicates the Skill gap. (see slide #11).
There seems to be a large disparity between the different countries.

Benefits of Skills & ICT certifications
Here are the survey results by Julie Bort, Network World, 11/14/2011 on whether ICT skills & certification lead to better paid and new jobs.
In this survey of 700 IT professionals, most say certifications have led to raises and better jobs, busting the myth that certs are nothing but a scam.
Digital Skills in Education. Thanks Andrea for this video, not only in the UK but all over Europe, people especially young people are not being trained with the right e-skills that the future job market so desperately needs. In response to Miguel above, it is not solely up to industry to train people with the right skills. Industry, education, certification and training providers, and public authorities need to work together to ensure that skills supply meets demand. The concept of ‘digital natives’, that youth innately have the right skills is false and risks creating another digital divide. So where do young people learn their core skills? In schools, in education, so we need to ensure that future education experiences are not "spoiled" as you say, teacher's skills first of all need to be developed so that they can get the skills to integrate technology into learning. We need to help teachers learn to use ICT and then use ICT to teach and learn. And of course, this means it needs to be a political priority for all Member States to make sure that digital skills are embedded in all aspects of education! We have a lot of work to do!
