Social media for education
Education is another domain that tries to make use of social media to better support the educational process, in schools, Universities and enterprises.
Terms such as Learning 2.0, or "social learning" are then frequently used to refer to the role of the social process in the acquisition of knowledge. Sometime the approach consists in adding social components to the LMS (learning management systems) or virtual campus.
More specifically I am currently observing an interest in the use of social media (along with mobile technologies) for helping Universities to better support their students, and as a natural evolution of the learning platform they have put in place in the past (BSCW, Sakai, etc.). These initiatives are managed by the digital "pedagogical teams" of these universities.
Note: Another use of social media is to better communicate with their alumni community. However, it this case, these initiatives appears to be managed but totally different teams (communication & marketing).
I would suggest to have a look at this application domain which appear to be very distinct from other domains (e.g. communication; enterprise social networking).
Any experience to share in this domain?
