Enterprise social networking?
In the short description of this group it is indicated:
>> It will address the three perspectives of the social media economy: businesses, web entrepreneurship with job creation potential and public sector.
I do not see enterprise social networking, i.e. the use of social media inside the organization so as to support collaboration & socialization in the enterprise, and as an evolution of the intranet and or knowledge management systems.
This is a domain that appears to be growing, and that has built its own ecosystem of technology designers, consultants and users (companies).

Thierry - Good point. This is
Thierry - Good point. This is indeed a huge area of growth and big potential for social media.
I guess it is not really addressed by this group as most of the large enterprises have their own motives and mechanisms to do things.
Supporting the mid market and start-ups is something the EU Commission could have a huge economic impact and those companies are more depended on outside support than enterprises.
I have to agree with Axel
I have to agree with Axel here, I work in a global enterprise and we do have our own agenda for social media, and it's global. Then we have plans for each region, each country, and each business area.
Apart from the business aspects that Axel outlines, there need to be a focus on public services (e.g. "24/7 authorities"), non-profit organizations, schools, research centers and institutes. Social media provides an information platform for those types of organizations with an unmatched reach compared to costs.
Hi Thierry,
Hi Thierry,
Could you please outline how you see the two being linked? social media economy and social networking.
I think the two are different, social networking is an enabler, an accelerator. Whilst businesses, web entrepreneurship with job creation potential and public sector are goals or focus.
Thanks,
Gianluigi
