Digital Union vs. Economic Union
Did the great European experiment start in the wrong place?
The Euro is in a crisis, caused by the commercial banks that welcomed (and made stacks of money from) it.
Will our Broadband Infrastructure also be in crisis because of the biased advice of the large telco's who have to put the needs of their shareholders before customers?.
Will the combination of financial and digital crisis condemn Europe to 20-30 years of economic chaos?
We are fast qualifying to become a 'digital 3rd world'. We need to take to ensure a fast and swift 'digital union' where every European has access to the best digital infrastructure running the most advanced applications?
Just imagine what that would do to address our economic woes???

I like the idea of a digital
I like the idea of a digital union, all the people working together to build the infrastructure we need. The issue is how to make a level playing field where the larger telcos can't hinder us by anti competitive marketing and stop the old boys network who support them protecting their legacy assets?
I don't have to imagine what it would do to address our economic woes, I know it would go a long way to solving them, and also issues with health, education etc.
It would also reduce our carbon footprint and also improve quality of life, but maybe such things can't be measured properly, and the civil servants do love their stats don't they?
I second Roger and Chris on
I second Roger and Chris on this one. Structure will help, but it has to be innovative and open. No place anymore for old boys with their own stakes. My sons (3 and 1 years old) should benefit from a digital world, and when they grow up in a world that becomes smaller ('The pope is only 6 handshakes away' - Ian Rankin) it is unexplainable why they should be tied by old ways of doing business.
