Browser limitations on Windows 8 in the name of security, will this happen?
In the name of security, it seems that Microsoft is trying to keep browsers other than IE out of the Metro version for Windows 8.
So far it is only rumors but it seems that Microsoft will not allow fully functional browsers and there will be restrictions on third-party applications on ARM processors-based devices.
If these rumors come true, what will the EU response be to this competition limitation? Somehow, it seems the same situation Microsoft faced few years ago in Europe when it was forced to allow more freedom of choice in the use of the browser in the desktop version.
ReadWriteWeb (http://rww.to/K2CbA5) reports that Microsoft is doing that for protecting users from malware. My first thought is: if IE can run on the Metro version, why then FF or Chrome would bring higher risk for malware? and why only on the Metro version?
Can it be the case that Microsoft is doing that to catch up in the highly competitive market of OS for tablets and phones?
What would be the EU response to Microsoft's move?
